As of this moment, we have not yet had any *serious* issues with separation anxiety with our daughter. (Yet is the key word– I am fully aware this can ambush us at any moment.)
Yes, Charis digs the fact that we are her parents (at least that is what I am telling myself– check back with me when she turns 13) but she isn’t stuck like glue to me unless she is afraid or sick.
Unfortunately, she is currently in a season of not loving the dark.
We have got it worked out so that she will go to sleep on her own (most nights) but when we try to coax her back down at 4:30am, that’s where the dark is her worst enemy.
She can’t see me… And she flips out.
Our sweet daughter doesn’t understand we are literally 12 feet across the landing in our own bedroom. We are not leaving her to fend for herself at the tender age of 13 months. There are no huge packs of lions lurking to devour her.
But because she can’t see us, she believes we are gone. Poof. Outta there. No longer present.
Fortunately, God is our parent. He never leaves us, which brings us to today’s truth:
God is Always Present.
Never, ever, ever in our lives is God going to walk away, leave us in the dark and let the pride of spiritual lions eat us for lunch.
No way. Instead, He stays right by our side, guiding us, comforting us, loving us each little step along the way.
And to be honest, some days I am beyond thankful for this simple truth. Because life is hard. Parenting is a challenge. Army-wifeness can get lonely.
But God is always present. He is always with me.
And He is always with you too. (He’s talented like that.)
He is present with us in our highest of highs and lowest of lows. He is present in the monumental and in the mundane.
Yep, God is always with us.
I don’t know about you, but I feel God’s presence most powerfully when I am enjoying His creation. I am overwhelmed by His presence in the sanctuary of our church on Sunday morning. And I feel His discerning, motivating presence as I pound out the words in my snug little office/guest room corner desk, racing against the baby nap time clock.
Take a moment and consider where you feel God’s presence most. I would love to hear all about it… Feel free to leave a comment and join the conversation.
Be encouraged, dear reader. Know that God is always present with us, in our best and not-so-best moments. He cares. He loves. He comforts.
God is always present.
Rejoicing in His presence,
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV
