Patience to Flourish

GUESS WHAT!?!

My peace plant FINALLY BLOOMED!! Eeeeeeeee!

Ok. I should probably back up. At this point, I imagine you are either 1) confused at my excitement or 2) think I have lost my mind. But the answer is neither.

I usually don’t get this excited about blooming flowers either– but I have been waiting about 22 months for Chloe (that’s the peace plant’s name) to bloom. Here’s the thing– I don’t have the greenest thumb in the world. [Read more…]

Be the Bread

Motivation is such a b-e-a-utiful thing.

I know that being gung-ho can come in different stages/proportions. I’ve been through enough finals weeks that I definitely understand the motivation/procrastination cycle. But it kind of makes me laugh when God sends motivation in VERY unexpected ways… and it ends up being for his glory. [Read more…]

Brought to you by: the Letters S & L

Today’s message is brought to you by the letter’s S & L. Let me explain…

Last night I was blessed to have the opportunity to teach the Christ Community Church’s Youth Ministry group about Servant leadership. It. Was. AWESOME. God definitely met us there and <hopefully> He allowed me to communicate a strong message about Jesus’ love for us and the need for us to humble ourselves in His name and serve. [Read more…]

A Banjo and a Bible

I love going back to my roots.

I am a country girl and proud of it. I grew up loving agriculture, nurturing baby calves (and various other creatures) on our back porch and still get a little thrill from putting on my cowgirl boots that I got at the American Royal five years ago.

Kansas (where I am from) definitely isn’t “The South.” But this weekend, I had a chance to get a little splash of country– only to a much higher degree. [Read more…]

Say Good Morning

Who do you tell “Good morning” each day?

Are you the kind of person who springs out of bed, raring to go with the “today-I’m-gonna-change-the-world-attitude?” Or are you the person that others understand if they approach you before your morning cup-o-joe, they might very well get shanked?

Either way, whether you are the happy-go-lucky or gimme-coffee-now or somewhere in between kinda person, you can always say good morning to one person: God. [Read more…]

No Panic Needed

My beloved and I just returned from a four-day anniversary mini-vacay in the North Georgia mountains. Ahhhhhhhhh….

First of all, it was awesome. Nature is cool. Mountains are legit (not many of those in Kansas where I come from.) The cabin we stayed in was cozy. And our baby dog Justus behaved (it was his first overnight road trip.)

That being said– we have left what we like to call “pretend-land” and returned to reality. I have heard many folks say “I love to travel, but I hate the moment that I arrive home.” I have to admit, I used to be one of those people, easily overwhelmed by the TO DO list waiting at my doorstep the minute I check out of pretendland.  Time to hit the PANIC BUTTON!!! But not anymore. [Read more…]

Here’s to Kicking the Bucket… list (Part 2)

We have all heard that with God, all things are possible.

And while he certainly can do ANYTHING and achieve great miracles, sometimes we can rejoice in the small things… Like having faith to accomplish the potentially goofy things on our “Bucket List.”
As promised, today I am sharing with you things that I have yet to accomplish on my Bucket List… Just writing down some these words fills me with such passion and excitement that I can’t describe it! Praising God for the “little things!”
One more thing to know– there isn’t a limit to how many things you can have… I still periodically add things as they come to me!
Sharita Lo-Quita-Jo-Mama’s Bucket list… Still “To do.”  [Read more…]

Here’s to Kicking the Bucket… list (Part 1)

If you have ever been engaged in a conversation with me for more than 18 minutes, chances are I have mentioned my “Bucket list.”

I don’t talk about my Bucket List to say “Oooo looky at all the ‘cool’ things I have done.” Because honestly, most of them aren’t cool. They are probably borderline nerdy. But I’ve come to terms with this. My Bucket List is important to me a for a few reasons:

1. I love making lists.

2. God has designed me to be a person who enjoys working towards things and having goals– even if they are nerdy goals.

3. It makes a great conversation piece.

4. Gives me an excuse to do some pretty random stuff.

5. I can revel and thank God for all of the awesome little things in life that make me happy! [Read more…]

A Heart of Ministry

NEWSFLASH: Being a “minister” can be draining.

Notice that I put the word minister in quotation marks. Those aren’t sarcasm quotes… but what I like to call flexibility quotation marks. Before you completely check out, you should know that YOU are a minister too.

“Whoa, woman. Back the God truck up. I don’t work in a church. I didn’t go to seminary.” That might be true, but I assure you that you have ministered to people– maybe even today. [Read more…]

Never Say Never

If I’ve learned one thing about being a Christian, it is to never say never.

I know it says in the Bible not to test the Lord, but it seems that nearly every time in my life I said “never!” God sat up there watching, laughed and said “Wanna bet, my beloved?”

I would like to think that I am prime example of this “Never Say Never” theory. I can’t recall all of the times in my life that I have said “Never…” then a few moments, days, months or years later, BAM– God had SUCH a different plan.

Still unsure? Let’s take a quick look at my “nevers” that have since become “nows” “YES” or “always.” [Read more…]
