Song in My Heart

Music rocks my world. Literally.

I have always liked listening to music and discovered in the 5th grade that  that I could sing ok-ish.  (much to my surprise as well as our elementary/middle school choir.) My first ever solo performance was the “Somewhere Out There” from The American Tail: Fieval Goes West. [Read more…]

Squeaky Clean & Lemony fresh

My house is *currently* clean.  Please excuse me for one moment as I do a happy dance.

Ok, I’m back. I don’t really like to clean. Seriously, ask prior roommates (Kally Hood-Smith, specifically) and they will back me up on this one.  I mean, I will TRY to keep a slight handle on the clutter and do dishes often enough to avoid growing anything fuzzy in my sink, but as far as deep cleaning, I really need an outside reason to make it happen. Thanks to being brought up by my wonderful mama, my motivation is found when “company is coming.” [Read more…]

Lifted by being Gifted

So you might have noticed yesterday that we talked a bit about looking for Goodness of God everywhere… Today, I wanted to keep this simple (it is Friday after all, let’s be honest) and share with you a few of the A-MAZ-ING gifts God has given me. They lifted my heart as I typed them– I prayerfully hope that as you read them, you too are lifted by being gifted. [Read more…]

Back to School Bonus

Our dog Sweet Justus loves elementary school days.

I am not talking about MY school days– because for me, working on my masters online, everyday is a school day– and I don’t have to go anywhere. (Praise Jesus!) But Justus loves little kid school days. Brandon and I obviously don’t have kids of our own yet, but  there are passels (flocks? gaggles?) of small little school children all throughout our neighborhood. Fortunately for our lil baby dog, we usually time our morning walk-jogs just right for the kids to be waiting at the multiple bus stops to head to school. [Read more…]

Yard Sale Toys

While I don’t have any little children of my own yet, I like to babysit other drill sergeant wives’ on occasion. This has worked out pretty well for the last few months since I have been in Georgia, but I began to realize that these little ones were getting bored when they came over to our place, primarily because we didn’t have any toys. And let’s be honest, you can only watch Tangled so many times. [Read more…]

Takin’ Me Swimming

As I was praying about what to write today, my tired mind was spinning… Or at least fogging over. Honestly, it has been a crazy day, a lot on my heart and in my head (don’t worry, it’s mainly all good things… apparently ministry is taxing work! Who knew, right?)

Anyway, God reminded me of a prayer that I wrote for myself in my journal during Prayer week about a month ago (it’s only been a month? Feels like ten years!) I was compelled to open my heart and share it with the world. [Read more…]

A Tilt of My Head

I can’t draw/cut a straight line to save my life.
I personally think it has something to do with my qualities of being graceful <sarcasm here… I am so clumsy. Recent example: I smoked my shin when I fell off doing box jumps today with my personal trainer. It’s purple. Go K-State?!?) But seriously, if someone asks me to hang something on the wall, cut a piece of paper, or draw a line across a page, I hope they don’t mean straight. Cause it’s not gonna happen. [Read more…]

No Comma Included: “One Nation Under God”

It’s been ten years.

I was sitting in freshmen English class at Crest High School in Colony, KS. One of my classmates, KC, was tardy from school that day. Suddenly he came barreling through the doors saying that the reason he was late was because he stayed home watching the news about some planes crashing into buildings in New York City. A few moments later the teachers got word of the attacks and clicked on the cable in various classrooms. Is this really happening? [Read more…]

The Enemy Doesn’t Wear Combat Boots

We are all fighting a battle. Some of us more than one. As an army wife (specifically: Infantryman/current Drill Sergeant’s wife), it sometimes seems like the battles are never-ending. I battle with maintaining patience, changing schedules, miscommunication, all while attempting to continually support my Beloved Husband in his quest to defend this mighty country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But whether you are an army spouse, doctor’s spouse, farmer’s spouse or any son or daughter of Christ,  we are all fighting the same spiritual Enemy. [Read more…]

Cutting Corners– It’s a Good Thing!

Last Saturday, I got motivated. (Scary thought, I know.)  I woke up around 6:30am, ate my breakfast, had quiet time with the Lord, strapped on my tennis shoes and loaded up the pup in the car. We were going on an adventure.

Ok, so it wasn’t exactly an adventure that was so epic that it would appear on Discovery Channel or Animal Planet. But my little dog Sweet Justus and I decided to switch up our daily workout a bit and hit up the Riverwalk… And attempt break a record for distance/time. We were going “wogging” or “jalking.” (My combo form of walk-jogging hiking intervals.) [Read more…]
