Would you say that you are a trusting person?
For me, my answer would probably lean towards yes. Sure, there are a few folks out there that make me raise an eyebrow as to whether or not I can legitimately trust them, but for the most part I try to give people the benefit of the doubt.
However, there was a point in my life that trusting other people was an issue. Specifically on almost every leadership retreat I ever attended, especially if a ropes course was involved.
Rope courses are designed to facilitate problem solving, develop communication and create trust within members of a team.
I hated it. Not because I didn’t like/trust my team, but because I had an issue with heights… plus I always felt self-conscious because of my fitness level (or lack thereof.)
The one obstacle that I dreaded the most was the trust fall. One team member would climb up to a platform about 5 feet in the air, then the rest of the team would gather around underneath. The platformed person was then supposed to turn around backwards, cross their hands over their chest and then fall into the pile of people waiting to catch them below.
Um, no thanks. I am pretty sure I did it once or twice, but only due to peer pressure… Plus I may or may not have been close to tears.
If I am being perfectly honest with you, my relationship with God used to be like that as well… I didn’t trust Him enough to just close my eyes and fall back into His arms, confident that He would catch me before my noggin hit the ground.
But now, several years later, I have learned this truth about God…
God is Trustworthy
I have blogged several times about trusting God. 2012 was a huge year for this truth as dependence/trust was my “One Word.” Also, as my husband and I experienced the miscarriage of our first child, our trust in God deepened dramatically.
Even now, in my daily walk with Him, I see his trustworthiness coming through in our blessings and trials.
When we are waiting on the army for answers… We know that God is trustworthy.
When the baby fights her nap like a champ… We know that God is trustworthy.
When my family back home is hurting and I want to be there… We know that God is trustworthy.
When I am feeling overwhelmed with the huge God-sized dreams God has called me to… We know that God is trustworthy.
When we struggle to understand hard life events… We know that God is trustworthy.
When we wonder if that paycheck will stretch a far as we need it… We know that God is trustworthy.
In all things, with all circumstances, in all His plans… God is so very trustworthy.
Where in your life have you seen God display His trustworthiness most profoundly? How would your list of God’s trustworthiness compare to my list above. You know the drill, friends… I love feedback. Please jump in the conversation a leave a comment.
No matter what you are facing or how high up your trust fall platform might be at the moment, know with your whole heart that God is right there to encourage you, love you and catch you before you fall.
Because God is trustworthy.
Trusting Him Always,
“In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.” ~Psalm 25:1 NIV
